Qualcomm comes up with a new alternative to SIM cards
The chip manufacturer Qualcomm, which supplies chips to many smartphones and devices from various brands, is coming up with a new project. A novelty is the cooperation with Vodafone and the French company Thales. According to the BusinessInsider portal, these three greats are coming up with the new iSIM technology.
What benefits will the new iSIM card bring?
The integrated SIM card (iSIM) seems to be an improved version of the currently widely used eSIM card, which is currently only available in some smartphone models.
Qualcomm has already tested its innovation with its partners using the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 smartphone on the Vodafone network. However, the new type of card should also work on Telecom’s popular network and infrastructure without any problems.
One of the main advantages of iSIM is the even smaller design, ie more space saved in devices such as smartphones, smart watches, tablets, headphones and many others. As with eSIM, you will be able to activate the built-in SIM card remotely via your operator.
According to information from Qualcomm, the new iSIM will be built into the device’s processor. This saves even more space than with eSIM, which is built into the device’s motherboard.
The company says the new version of integrated cards allows devices to perform better and offer increased memory capacity. This is a huge advantage over traditional plastic SIMs, which have limited capacity.
It is expected that the news will please many developers and manufacturers mainly due to the constant shrinking of technological equipment. ISIM will definitely be a very popular alternative in this area. However, it is still unknown when we will see the first integrated SIM cards in the devices.
