As publisher Amazon Games has announced via the official New World Twitter account, you can play the extensive online role-playing game in the upcoming Play for free on Steam for five days:

From the April 7th to April 11th all the content of the MMORPG is available to you, including the brand new content update Heart of Madness. The latter adds a final story mission to the campaign. There is also a new weapon that is also waiting to be leveled by you.

So if you’ve been undecided about whether to play the popular online role-playing game 39.99 euros should be worthwhile, who can now get an impression of New World for free.

Uncertain Future: Is New World Coming to an End?

In New World you explore a gigantic island as a castaway, fight all kinds of creatures, join a faction and do extensive trading.

The concept was initially well received and the servers were massively overloaded just in time for the release. New World reached its peak one month after the release, in October 2021. There were at one point in time more than 900,000 users online at the same time. Since then, however, the active community has shrunk significantly. Around 20,000 users are still playing New World.

The “Free Weekend” event aims to revive the waning MMORPG and bring old hands back with the new content (“Heart of Madness”). So it will be interesting to see how the number of players will develop over the coming week and how many players will remain loyal to the game afterwards.

In any case, the Steam community is currently divided when it comes to the state of New World. So the game has over 190,000 reviews only a “balanced” user rating.
