PlayStation 5 sales dominate Xbox Series X worldwide

The PlayStation 5 dominates worldwide sales compared to the Xbox Series X and S. The difference is huge.

It will come as no surprise that the PlayStation 5 outperforms the Xbox Series X in terms of sales. GamingSmart statistics, on the other hand, illustrate exactly how far behind the Series X is. The PlayStation 5 controls more than 65% of the global market, while the Series X and S have to do with less than 35%. And of the 167 countries surveyed, only 12 are where Microsoft’s console is more popular than Sony’s.

PlayStation 5 vs Xbox Series X | S sale

Historically, PlayStation has actually always been more popular than the Xbox and this generation is no different. The gaming platform reports that the PlayStation 5 has sold 4.48 million times worldwide. The Xbox Series X and S were ‘only’ sold 2.4 million times. Both consoles are struggling with sparse stocks, but that didn’t stop Sony from dominating again.

Speaking of dominance, the extensive statistics show that almost 93% of all gaming countries in the world prefer PlayStation. Only countries such as Mexico, Afghanistan, Hungary, Jamaica, China, Slovenia and of course home country United States choose Xbox. And to sprinkle some more salt in the wounds of my fellow Xbox enthusiasts; Xbox wins in the US by only 0.38% difference.

It’s hard to verify how accurate the data is, but it should be clear that PlayStation 5 wins in terms of quantity. We also have to wait and see how things stand for, say, six months. Currently there is a huge shortage of consoles, so maybe a lot more Xbox fans are still waiting for a console? And all speculation aside, despite the power of the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, there really is only one winner, and it’s called Nintendo Switch.
