Mario Kart: Luigi’s racetrack was perfect for the record
YouTuber Beck “abney317” has long been considered one of the best “Mario Kart 64” speed runners today. He still holds a number of records, including both “All Cups” categories (Skips and No Skips).
When a new technique was discovered that could push the times on Luigi’s racetrack far down, the YouTuber set out to learn and perfect it. The player must at a certain angle and at a certain speed Hit a wall to trick the game into believing it has completed a full lap. The end result may look simple and kind of funny, but in the end there is a lot of work behind it.
The fun starts at 8:15 minutes.
Currently he’s working on another world record. Just today he published on his channel a video of a speed run on the Mario racetrack:
Mario Kart: Fans found wall clipping exploits
The world record Abney set came thanks to a new exploit. Mario Kart 64 players recently discovered that, given the right circumstances, it is possible, simple driving through walls and curves. If you want to know more about it, you can watch the explanatory video.
Although Mario Kart 64 is so old, it is still one of the favorite games of many gamers today and its small flaws still regularly attract speed runners.
