Pico 4 Pro: new information on the main competitor of the Meta Quest Pro
pico is about to strike a blow on the VR front. The Chinese manufacturer, now owned by ByteDance (the publisher of Tiktok), would indeed be about to market the Pico 4 Pro, a VR / AR headset that would a priori target the same “prosumer” clientele as the Meta Quest Pro. Details of the Pico 4 and Pico 4 Pro are available via the FCC database, which generally is a good indicator of an upcoming launch.
We thus learn that the two Pico 4 Pro models will have a whole new generation of controllers, much thinner than those of the Neo Link and the Meta Quest 1&2, with a hoop that will partly cover the hand (like the PSVR controllers 2). The Pro model will also be entitled to eye-tracking and face-tracking (face tracking). The device runs on Android Q and will of course have a Qualcomm processor (probably the Snapdragon XR2 which already equips the Meta Quest 2).
The compactness of the helmet and one of the shots available seems to indicate that the display will be provided by Pancake lenses with perhaps a Micro OLED panel underneath. Analysts expect the Pico 4 Pro to sell for less than the upcoming Meta Quest Pro, less than $1,500.
