Overhauled Macbook Pros expected in summer – Macbook Air and Mac Pro later
Apple’s new MacBook Pro generation will appear in the course of the summer with a new design and faster chips. A revised Macbook Air, a low-end Macbook Pro and new desktop computers in the form of the Mac Pro and a large iMac will then follow.

With regard to the chips for the Macbook Pro, Apple is working on two variants with the code names “Jade C-Chop” and “Jade C-Die”. In contrast to the M1 chips, which each have four high-performance and energy-efficient cores and up to eight graphics cores, the new Apple silicon processors should have eight high-performance cores, two energy-efficient cores and 16 or 32 graphics cores depending on the version. According to Gurman’s information, an updated neural engine has also been installed for machine learning tasks. In addition, the chips support up to 64 gigabytes of RAM, compared to a maximum of 16 gigabytes of RAM in the current M1.
New Mac Mini probably with the same chip as the Macbook Pro
For the more powerful version of the Mac Mini (code name J374) currently in development, Apple used the same chip that will be used in the upcoming MacBook Pro. Gurman’s sources report that the MacBook Pro will have four ports, while the current low-end version will have two. The market launch of the new Mini is not completely set in stone, Apple could delay or cancel it. In the long term, the company will replace the version that is currently still equipped with an Intel chip.
As for the successor to the Macbook Air, which was previously described as a higher-quality variant, the market launch can be expected by the end of the year. The processor for the new Air is a direct successor to the M1 processor, reports Gurman. The chip with the code name “Staten” will have the same number of cores as the M1 chip, but will be faster. In addition, the number of graphics cores is to be increased from seven or eight to nine or ten. Apple is also planning an update for the entry-level model of the 13-inch Macbook Pro with the same chip.

Small cheese grater: New Mac Pro probably not until 2022
Gurman believes that a new generation of the Mac Pro will have to be waited for until 2022. According to the reporter, buyers will likely be able to choose between two processors that will be either twice or four times as powerful as the high-end chip in the upcoming MacBook Pro.
The chip under the code names “Jade 2C-Die” and “Jade 4C-Die” in development for the newly designed Mac Pro should be planned with 20 or 40 computing cores, which are composed of 16 or 32 high-performance cores and four or eight high-efficiency cores. The chips would also have built in 64 or 128 core options for the graphics unit. The number of cores exceeds the maximum number of 28 cores offered by the Intel processors of the current Mac Pro. The newly developed in-house graphics chips are intended to replace the graphics units from AMD.
According to Gurman, the new Mac Pro has been in development for a few months and should look like a smaller version of the current cheese grater design.
