Oppo surprises with new update guarantee: Samsung remains untouchable
More and more smartphone manufacturers are improving their update policy. The Chinese companies in particular are improving significantly and want to eliminate their disadvantage compared to Samsung and Google. Oppo is now surprising with a big change, but as always, the devil is in the details.
Oppo promises five years of software updates
There is good news, at least for buyers of high-end Oppo smartphones that will appear from 2023. The Chinese company has officially announced that selected top models four Android version upgrades and five years of security updates received (source: oppo). This puts Oppo on par with Samsung and even better than Google, which only guarantees three Android version upgrades.
But as I said, that only applies to selected top phones from Oppo. Other cell phones don’t have as many updates, which puts the update guarantee into perspective. Because Samsung updates all cell phones for at least five years. Sometimes even older smartphones receive an update that nobody expected. Accordingly, this is only good news for anyone who wants to buy a top-of-the-line Oppo phone.
Nevertheless, this step has to be commended because Oppo is significantly improving its update policy with it, even if it only affects the new high-end devices that will be available from 2023. At the same time, Oppo also says that the updates will be distributed faster. ColorOS 13 became like this worldwide brought to 33 smartphones much faster. More are to follow in the near future. So something is happening to make Oppo phones more sustainable.
The current Oppo Find X5 does not fall under the update guarantee:
Sales ban for Oppo smartphones in Germany
Whether you can even buy the next top smartphones in Germany in 2023 is currently still in the stars. Nokia has obtained a sales ban that still applies. If the problem cannot be solved by the time the new smartphones are launched on the market, then the new Oppo cell phones with a 5-year update guarantee will not even find their way to Germany.
