More and more companies are developing other products in addition to smartphones. One of these products are the wireless earphones and that is not surprising because these have become an integral part of the street scene. OPPO has launched a number of these types of products, including the OPPO Enco X. These high-end earphones were developed in collaboration with Dynaudio, a Danish company that focuses on HiFi products. Each of our five testers received a set, and after two weeks of testing we asked them what they thought of it.

Build quality and design

Wilma: “The Oppo Enco X are in-ear. They come in their nice charging box. There is a small LED indicator on the box. When opened or placed on the charger, it lights up briefly. Red for almost empty, yellow for not full, but not nearly empty and green for (almost) full. Simple, but effective.”

Jason: “They’re in-ear earphones and they fit just as well with long-term use as with short-term use. They were very similar to Apple’s, so I didn’t expect them to be so comfortable.”

Rene: “Once out of the packaging, a sexy charging case appears. This immediately looks very premium. However, I had engraved the X of Enco X in it. As soon as the caps came out of the case I was pleasantly surprised. They look very nice and look like real high quality Earbuds. And thanks to the IP 54 rating, you don’t have to worry about a little rain either. What I find useful about the earphones is that sliding over the earphones makes the music louder, and tapping it takes you to the next song. It also works flawlessly.”

Rob: “The glossy finish could be seen as piano lacquer, but in use it still doesn’t have the premium look you expect, including fingerprints. The battery status LEDs are clear and work well. For the autumn weather to come, you don’t have to don’t worry, because the earphones have an IP 54 rating. Rain, wind or dust are no problem.”

Tom:“The earplugs are only dust and splash-proof. So sweating is no problem, but you can’t swim laps in the pool with them.”

Sound

Wilma: “In terms of technology, I don’t know much about sound equipment. I usually hear from small speakers that the quality is limited, and I’m quite sensitive to sound distortions. I had no problems with all this with these earphones. I’m surprised that such a rich sound comes out of these small devices. In the low tones, no unpleasant drone, but beautiful rich details. In the high tones, no distortions or noises, and again those beautiful rich details.”

Jason: “The earphones are always well connected. I have never had one suddenly stutter unless you walk too far away from the phone of course.”

Rene: “The Oppo Enco X has a Coaxial Dual-driver design that provides a very good balance between high and low tones. It is very noticeable when you put the earphones in for the first time. The high, middle and low tones come into their own very well. To test the bass sound well, I opted for an ultimate bass test on YouTube. This reminded me of my old Sennheiser headphones. OPPO, together with Dynaudio, have succeeded excellently in producing these modern-looking earphones create a sound comparable to professional headphones.”

Rob: “With the sad death of Lee “Scratch” Perry, I recently listened to a lot of his music. The bass sound is clearly present without being overpowering, and that is also necessary for reggae music. The high tones can then be heard well with, for example snare drum or voice.”

Tom: “I have reviewed Brad Paisley’s song ‘Whiskey lullaby’, and the earbuds give a clear and good surround sound experience. Things in the distance also sound really far away and the depth of the tones is clearly audible. The voice of the vocalist is also very clear and it sounds natural. Techno and other EDM that are defined by their bass sound, are a bit less effective.”

Pair and use the app

Wilma: “With an OPPO phone you don’t need an accompanying app and you can use Fast Pair. That works very smoothly and smoothly. You can adjust the various operating options to a limited extent. I would have liked a little more freedom in the app. The test with which you check whether the chosen ear cushions are suitable is a nice addition. With some adjustments to the position of the ears in my ears, I got the green light on both ears in combination with the ear cushions with size S.”

Rene: “The software that you can use for the settings is controlled on your phone. All functions such as swiping, tapping and holding can be adjusted here. There is also an equalizer from Dynaudio immediately. This really ensures that you get the most beautiful sound out of the earphones.”

Rob: “The HeyMelody app offers the possibility to adjust the controls on the earphones, such as adjusting the volume, playing, stopping and switching to the previous and next song. You can also change the degree of noise cancellation and there are three choices for the sound quality. I would have liked to see a little more customization options. You don’t want to miss the HeyMelody app, but the equalizer could be a bit more extensive.”

Tom: “The earphones are easy to pair with the OPPO Reno 6 Pro. Switch on bluetooth, and when you open the charging case you will automatically see a pairing request on your phone.”

Control and telephone

Wilma: “With two taps you can choose per earpiece between play or pause, next song or previous song. With three taps you can activate the Google Assistant for voice control. Calls are also excellent. The other person can be understood clearly.”

Jason: “The earphones have two microphones in both earpieces. One at the top of the stem and one at the bottom of the stem of the ears. .”

Rene: ‘I have made video calls with the Enco X several times. The other party could hear me very clearly and so far I have not had any complaints about bad sound. This is no surprise with the arrangement of three microphones, and thanks to wind detection, your conversation partner will not be bothered by it either. a bad sound when you call outside.”

Rob: “Having conversations is a good experience with the earphones and a clear sound can be heard on both sides of the line. What is nice is that you can also make calls if you only have one earpiece in.”

Tom: “It takes some getting used to the location of the touch-sensitive area at first, but once you get used to it, it works very nicely.”

Battery life

Wilma: “After about an hour and a half of listening, the earphones both had 70% battery left, so about 4 to 5 hours of use should be feasible, as the manufacturer also states.”

Jason: “I’ve only charged them twice in two weeks, so with noise canceling (ANC) they should get about one charge per week. I use the earbuds quite a lot, by the way. They always charged quickly too when I put them in the case did, but you can’t really see how many percent is left without opening the case.”

Rene: “In total you have a battery charge of more than 20 hours with you. Is that still not enough? Then reverse charging is also supported. You can see the current battery status at all times with the bluetooth symbol at the top of your screen.”

ANC

Wilma: ” These are my first earphones with active noise cancellation. On the strongest setting, I could barely hear my husband when he spoke to me. An interesting experience, I must say. The slightly less aggressive noise cancellation was also enough to reduce the sound of the completely filter out TV.”

Rob: “The ears are equipped with ANC, and the price is also appropriate. I didn’t have much faith in ANC with ears, but it works well beyond expectations.”

Additional Features

Wilma: “These earphones have wear detection that you can switch on or off. If you have that option enabled, music will automatically pause when you remove 1 earpiece. When you put the earpiece back, the music will also automatically resume.”

Jason: “You can switch with the two most recent connected devices, there is an equalizer and also the function to turn on Google Assistant.”

Rob: “In addition to the ANC in two modes, the Enco X also has a ‘transparent mode’. This is very useful if you want to hear the ambient sounds, such as on your bike or through the dangerous traffic of the city.”

Conclusion

Wilma: “I am quite fond of these earphones. The sound is sublime, the ANC is pleasant and the wearing comfort is better than what I have experienced so far from in-ear headphones.”

Jason: “I would recommend them to young people who listen to a lot of music or who use public transport a lot. In other words: people who use their earphones a lot.”

Rene: “These Enco X earplugs are for sale for about 180 euros. For this price, these are one of the best earplugs on the market right now. No one will regret buying these tips, because they do everything you would expect of it.”

Rob: “They are not cheap earphones, but they are worth the price. The best thing about the earphones is the well-functioning ANC and the transparent mode. The downside of the earphones is the volume control. They will shift in your ear.”
