Opel gives e-car success a new name
For Opel, the Mokka-E is the flagship of the new electric generation. But the electric compact SUV is getting a little old. The people from Rüsselsheim don’t want to leave it at that and pimp their Stromer. It also gets a new name at the same time.
Mokka-E becomes Mokka Electric: Opel renames E-Car
Since 2020, Opel has brought a successful combustion engine model into the electric age with the Mokka-E. Here, too, the compact SUV is far ahead of the competition. But now Opel wants to bring some innovations and that starts with the name: The Mokka-E is now officially called Mocha Electric.
But that’s not the only news:
- A more powerful battery is available for the Mokka Electric, based on a Capacity of 54 kWh comes.
- The range thus increases according to the WLTP standard up to 406 km, according to Opel an increase of 20 percent over the previous 338 km.
- You have consumption 15.2 kWh per 100 km lowered.
The range plus with a battery that is still not too large is a attention success. With the ID.3, for example, VW can point to significantly more kilometers – except in winter. But the Wolfsburg-based company also has to install a much larger battery (77 kWh).
The charging power of the Mokka Electric has increased by up to 100 kW at peak however, nothing changed. The competition can call up completely different values here. Hyundai and Kia in particular rely on significantly faster charging for their e-cars with their standard 800 V architecture right from the start.
New Mokka: Opel leaves important questions unanswered
With the new variant and under a new name, Opel wants to position the Mokka Electric as an SUV suitable for everyday use, while also offering a family car suitable for long-distance journeys. Two important questions stick with it though open: Opel does not reveal when exactly the new version with a more powerful battery will be launched. You keep the price to yourself. One thing is clear: If you want to have more range, you will have to dig deeper into your pocket.
The price is what counts with the e-car:
Opel has only reaffirmed the general plan: by 2024, all existing Opel models should also be available in an electrified version. By 2028, only electric cars will be offered on the European market.
