OnePlus will work more closely with the parent company Oppo
One of the reasons why Android smartphones are popular is that they give the user the ability to choose between different makes and models. However, the differences between the individual manufacturers are no longer so significant, and some smartphones today are really distinguished only by the logo on the back and the superstructure. However, OnePlus was different in this respect, but its uniqueness has disappeared in recent years. The bad news is that this trend is likely to continue. According to the Gizmodo portal, OnePlus is now moving towards “deeper integration” with its parent company OPPO.
How OnePlus changed from a legend to another ordinary smartphone manufacturer
OnePlus started as a small smartphone manufacturer and its slogan was #NeverSettle. From the beginning, she followed it and wanted to bring customers smartphones with a great price-performance ratio. Today, however, this is no longer the case and the prices of its smartphones coincide with the prices of flagships from, for example, Samsung.
While OnePlus is trying to add value to justify the higher price, such as working with Hasselblad, 5G connectivity, impressive battery life and fast charging, it’s no longer what it used to be.

The company’s strategy has also changed over the years. While at the beginning it released only one device a year, later it was joined by Pro models, a series marked “T” and most recently also devices of the lower middle class. Oppo has a similar strategy to OnePlus. This strategy obviously works and will probably push it to the OnePlus brand as well.
Closer cooperation between Oppo and OnePlus will also bring positives
Closer cooperation between OnePlus and Oppo may result in OnePlus becoming just another minor manufacturer of Android smartphones. However, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau (former CEO of Oppo) does not perceive this in a negative way and shared his positive vision of the future at the company’s official forum.
“Thanks to this deeper integration with Oppo, we will have more resources to create even better products for you,” he said. “It will also allow us to increase efficiency, such as bringing faster and more stable software updates for OnePlus smartphone users.”
Lau also confirmed that all OnePlus devices outside the Chinese market will continue to have the OxygenOS extension. Don’t worry, it’s unlikely that Oppo destroyed this superstructure just as it destroyed OnePlus’s unique brand. The company is also slowly preparing an update to OxygenOS 12, which is said to follow on from the new design of Android 12.
