OnePlus tackles its update problem: this is going to change
OnePlus has grown considerably since its inception, but with the growing portfolio it is difficult to keep all those devices up to date. To accommodate users, OnePlus has released a new update schedule.
OnePlus promises to get well
OnePlus promises a better update policy and starts expanding the updates for the OnePlus 8 series and newer. Where it will now deliver three Android versions and it will deliver an extra year of security updates. As a result, you will receive updates for up to four years, if you are a user from the very beginning.
The Nord and Nord CE will receive two major Android versions, with three years of security updates. With the N10 and N100, it remains with one major version, but the number of years of security updates is expanded to three years.
Furthermore, OnePlus has said on its forum that it will continue to work on its own OxygenOS for OnePlus users worldwide. By merging the Oppo and OnePlus team, careful thought has been given to how resources can be used more efficiently to provide the entire device portfolio with updates in a timely manner. Little will change for users, the work will mainly take place in the background.
OnePlus once again lists the following details about the update schedule;
- Flagship product line (including T/R): The OnePlus 8 series and newer devices will receive 3 major Android updates and 4 years of security updates.
- North / North CE: The first OnePlus Nord and newer Nord / Nord CE devices will receive 2 major Android updates and 3 years of security updates.
- Nord N series: Starting from N10 and N100, all N series devices will receive 1 major Android update and 3 years of security updates.
For devices released before the 8 series, the policy of two Android updates and three years of security updates applies. There is no change in the cycle in which the updates appear.
