Old familiar plugs with new gadgets
Contents
The (old) new features are well underway
As with Galaxy Buds Live, the last model of plugs with a revolutionary bean shape, we have seen active noise cancellation (ANC). In addition, the so-called Ambient mode has returned, which amplifies the surrounding sound. Plus a few other things. But in turn. I criticized the ANC for the Live model, because it seemed very weak, mainly due to the construction without plugs. Now with plugs (and probably other software improvements) it’s about something completely different and I can finally praise Samsung for the ANC. It’s still not perfect and the headphones obviously cut off sounds at lower frequencies (depths), but this is a significant improvement. There was a request from readers to compare the ANC with the Apple Air Pods, but unfortunately I did not have them available for the moment. Maybe next time.
Ambient mode has seen a fourth level of amplification since the days of Galaxy Buds Plus, which will surely please a lot of people. Not only is there now to choose from more levels, but the highest one is also a bit louder. A handy novelty is associated with this mode Voice detection. This wizard recognizes that you are talking, which will weaken the content being played and at the same time turn on Ambient Mode at the default level. It really works, and surprisingly sensitive to a quieter voice. But you have to get used to the reaction of the headphones for some time. They always react in about 1-2 seconds, so when you reach out to another person, you just have to trust them to switch correctly.

You have to trust them not to be a fool
If they succeed, for example, when saying “good morning”, you are fine and you can continue to communicate. Otherwise, you quickly pull the plug out of your ear and you’re a little crazy. The headset may return to its original state after five, ten, or fifteen seconds from the time the wearer has spoken. Usually these are sufficient intervals for most life situations, such as buying a ticket or ordering by the window, but I can imagine situations (when we’re not talking about the basic assumption that having headphones while talking is probably a bit rude), when that might not be enough. For example, if you just ask something and the second speaker’s answer is over 15 seconds. Then it is up to the user to consider manually interrupting playback.
Other goodies include the ability to quickly and automatically switch between connected devices (from the film tablet, the headphones bounce to connect to the phone during an incoming call, etc.), new Dolby Head Tracking with the ability to change the position of the 3D sound based on head rotation or function Buds Together allowing you to send audio from one device to two pairs of headphones. However, the mentioned items belong to those that are currently strictly limited to communication with the One UI 3.1 system, to which I unfortunately do not have access at the moment. For the first and third functions, we already know that they work. But I would like to try Dolby Head Tracking in the future.
Battery and Charge Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro
Samsung wireless headphones are characterized by very pleasant durability values due to the number of functions and sound quality. Even in this case, it is no different. “On paper” they can handle 5 hours of playing alone + 13 hours extra, including the capacity of the case when the ANC is turned on. With noise reduction off, it’s 8 + 20 hours. In real use, I found that it is necessary to reduce these “normal” values by about an hour for one cycle with the headphones themselves with the ANC turned on and a similar time without it.
But I mean the variant where they play at maximum volume and often use gestures. In the case of frequent calls, discharging would be faster, and without frequent gesture control, it would be slower. But overall, it is Stamina Buds For More Than Sympathetic. The case also supports wireless charging, so you just need to place it on the back of a compatible phone.
Variants, price and availability
As you may have noticed from the photos, I received a relatively extravagant purple variant during testing. Together with it, silver and black are also on offer. Samsung sells its new wireless headphones in its own e-shopfor the recommended price of CZK 5,990. Apart from this place, they are also available at several other retailers both online and in brick-and-mortar stores. Getting them will not be a problem.
Final rating of the Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro
The new Buds headphones basically met my expectations, which I had for the more traditional “plugs” after the last experiment called Buds Live. Active noise cancellation is at a higher level, ambient mode and the sensitive Voice Detection was also pleasantly surprised. There is nothing wrong with sound, not even in terms of microphones. Larger enthusiasts on quality listening, on the other hand, will be frozen by the absence of the universal AptX codec, and it is also unpleasant that many advanced gadgets are limited to the connection with the latest Samsung phones.
Pros
+ Above average sound
+ Quality ANC
+ Long battery life
+ Fast (even wireless) charging
+ Improved Ambient mode with Voice Detection
Cons
– Unconventional shape can push (individual)
– Many functions are limited to One UI 3.1
