Now everything should be much easier
Balcony power plants are currently very much in vogue. Many people strike and install the mini solar systems on the balcony, terrace or garden shed. But there are also some rules that must be observed and deter many interested parties. Exactly these regulations should now be abolished.
Balcony power plant should be possible for everyone
A few months ago, the federal government presented the solar strategy. The aim was to make it easier for everyone to install balcony power plants and to no longer have to register in such a complicated manner. Nothing has happened until today.
Solar fans have been fighting for the simplification of balcony power plants for years. Most recently, they started a petition with gigantic approval. Over 100,000 signatures were collected. Then it could Project presented to the Petitions Committee and had to face many questions.
With success, because the parliamentary state secretary in the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection, Stefan Wenzel, has promised that the required New regulations are implemented as quickly as possible. Whether that actually happens is in the hands of the Bundestag. It is clear, however, that the federal government really has to deal with it now.
These simplifications for balcony power plants are to come:
- 600 watt limit to fall (increase to 800 watts)
- Schuko plugs should be tolerated
- Old Ferraris meters should be allowed if they cannot be directly exchanged for a modern electricity meter
- Reporting requirements are to be eased or eliminated
- Privileged measure in the WEG/BGB
Basically, the plan of the federal government coincides with the demands of the petition. Everyone agrees that the use of balcony power plants in Germany must become easier. Now the project has to be implemented in a law. This is currently the sticking point.

Buy a balcony power plant now or wait?
I would advise you to buy a balcony power plant right away and not wait for the new regulations. Who knows how long that will take. Just make sure that you choose a set with solar panels that together achieve over 800 watts. So later you can simply get a more powerful inverter and get more power.
