NordVPN vs. CyberGhost, which is the best?
A VPN allows you to encrypt your Internet traffic to avoid data interceptions, hacks, tracking and targeted advertising. VPNs have also added the ability to choose locations of convenience in foreign countries. This can come in handy for bypassing blockages, but also for legally enjoying new movies and series on Japanese, Spanish or American Netflix (this also works with Disney + and Amazon Prime Video).
We often talk about NordVPN when it comes to this type of service. It’s a good choice, but in the rest of this article we will compare it with a very, very serious competitor: CyberGhost. This VPN is based in the land of vampires: Romania. This country is also known to have suffered a bloodthirsty dictatorship with a political police not very “Charlie”. The country has since protected its citizens and their anonymity.

The best VPN: CyberGhost or NordVPN?
1 / The number of servers and countries
At this little game CyberGhost is the best with 6,724 servers in 89 countries against 5,500 servers in 59 countries for NordVPN. Of course, these are just numbers and it is highly unlikely that you will need an IP in Bangladesh, but CyberGhost offers dedicated servers: rapids for P2P downloads, servers with stable speeds for streaming (Japanese Netflix, American Disney +, etc.) and servers with reduced ping for the game. CyberGhost is the winner.
2 / The number and variety of devices
CyberGhost and NordVPN offer almost the same thing here: 7 simultaneous devices for the first and 6 for the second. In terms of the variety of devices, it is also very tight: Windows, Linux, MacOS, Android, AndroidTV, iOS, Chrome, Firefox and several types of routers (Asus, D-Link, Linksys, Netgear…).
CyberGhost however adds apps for the PlayStation and Xbox consoles, but also for a device that we appreciate in writing the Raspberry Pi. Note also the possibility of putting CyberGhost on a Synology NAS for example. Even if these are quite specific cases, CyberGhost wins.
3 / Features and speed
The two VPNs offer quite similar functionalities: whitelist for banking apps (App Split), Kill Switch in the event of a server failure, ad filter, choice of encryption protocol, random connection port, “house” DNS, etc. Regarding speed, it is difficult to declare a winner as the data varies from one server to another. On the closest servers in France, the incoming / outgoing speeds and the pings are very close. Draw.
4 / The price
NordVPN offers a price of 3.15 € / month. However, you have to pay all at once which amounts to paying € 75.65 to be protected for a period of 2 years. Not bad, because that represents -68 € reduction compared to a “normal” month. At CyberGhost, the price is only 2 € / month but over 3 years (+3 months free): you must therefore pay 78 € for three years of peace.
In short, for 3 € more you have more than a year free. Don’t want to subscribe for that long? CyberGhost’s one-year commitment is € 45 while it is over € 50 at NordVPN. But why pay more? Take the best price with the longest commitment since you have time to reconsider your decision: the “satisfied or refunded” clause is 30 days at NordVPN and 45 days at CyberGhost. Once again, CyberGhost is the winner.
CyberGhost: the best choice
CyberGhost never ceases to amaze us. So of course NordVPN is a great service that probably won’t disappoint you, but if you’re demanding and want to get your money’s worth, CyberGhost is less expensive and just plain better.
