No new Call of Duty in 2023, but an extension of Modern Warfare 2?
Do not expect a new episode of call of duty for 2023 according to information published by Jason Schreier of Bloomber and insider TheGhostOfHope.
A few days ago, TheGhostOfHope said than a premium map pack “Greatest Hits” including multiplayer maps from Modern Warfare 2 from 2009 and other fan-favorite maps, would be released for the second year of Modern Warfare 2 of 2022. On Monday, Jason Schreier, who first reported in February that call of duty would skip 2023, confirmed that Activision would sell “new things for MW2” next year : “an extension or something like that” which would include a single-player campaign component.
Activision’s flagship franchise has only skipped a single year since its 2003 debut, which was 2004. Since 2005, Infinity Ward, Treyarch, and later Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software, have alternated developing episodes of call of duty to offer a new game every fall.
Yet even with three years, the development of a call of duty complete is subject to a very tight schedule. Treyarch has been brought forward a year, to 2020, with Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War when the development of what was to become Call of Duty: Vanguard by Sledgehammer Games encountered difficulties in 2019 with Raven Software in support.
This is an opportunity to highlight that 2023 will mark the 20th anniversary of the franchise call of duty. To see what the studios will prepare for the players. Obviously it won’t be a new game.
