“No interest in our larger TVs in the Netherlands” (Exclusive)
Xiaomi released a series of affordable televisions that work with Android TV in June. The Xiaomi TV A2 is available from 249.99 euros, but it only appears in a 32 and 43 inch model. Why is that when there are also models in 55 inch and 58 inch in other countries? We asked Xiaomi.
Xiaomi TV A2
On paper they look pretty nice, an Android TV from Xiaomi for 249.99 euros. The larger 43-inch 4K model with Dolby Vision support is available for 449.99 euros. Nevertheless, we spontaneously wondered why the larger models of the Xiaomi TV A2 are not coming to the Netherlands and Belgium. Most new televisions that are released here have a larger size.
“While indeed larger sizes of this model have been announced, we see no interest in them in this market,” said a Xiaomi spokesperson in response to our inquiry. So it seems that with low prices, the brand mainly wants to compete in the market of smaller TVs. Xiaomi has also only been selling its televisions in the Benelux since the end of 2021. Xiaomi therefore takes especially cautious steps when it comes to its TVs.
Google TV
Another question that came to our mind about the new TVs has to do with the version of Android TV. The Xiaomi TV A2 appears with the older Android TV 10 that was released in 2019. “It has to do with a number of related factors: the Google TV division, the chipset platform and Xiaomi’s internal plans. Google TV is definitely being considered for future releases.”
In the Netherlands, only the brands TCL, Sony and Philips offer televisions with Google TV, but Xiaomi may want to change that. Instead of a newer Android TV version, the company may opt for Google TV with subsequent models. In this article we will discuss the differences between the two systems. What do you think of the Xiaomi TV A2 and would you also be more inclined to buy a smaller Xiaomi television or a larger model? Let us know in the comments.
