Nio ET7, the 1000-km plug-in car
Driving from the Netherlands to Bordeaux with a single load? Chinese car manufacturer Nio will make that possible this summer with the Nio ET7, if all goes according to plan.
Nio ET7, from 600 km to 1000 km range
At the moment, the Nio models as listed on the Dutch Nio website reach less than 600 km on a full charge. This would therefore represent a significant improvement compared to the existing models. This improvement has everything to do with the new battery that Nio wants to place in their models. This has already been announced on the English website.
The Chinese want to achieve this in the Nio ET7 with a replaceable solid state 150 kWh battery. This battery was developed by another Chinese company. The battery costs around 35,000 euros in China. A hefty amount. The reason why Nio wants to offer the interchangeable battery on a weekly rental basis for holidaymakers.
Serious challenger in the luxury segment
For the hefty purchase price of almost a ton including battery, you get a genuine racing monster (or crack iron, as some would say) that can accelerate to 100 km per hour in just 3.8 seconds, or a distance of 33.5 m. In China, Nio is a top brand and runner-up to market leaders such as BYD and Tesla. We see this reflected in the luxurious interior and all kinds of technical gadgets. And the hefty prices of course.
Unfortunately, the 1000 km variant of the Nio ET7 is not yet available in the Netherlands at the moment, but it is already available in Norway. And in China, of course. But that will probably change in a few months.
Challenge to the competition
Nio has already distinguished itself with an exchangeable battery and charging stations. This system can also be used with the Nio ET7. This highly innovative company is likely to make it very difficult for Tesla in the more expensive market segment. We don’t even have to talk about the conservative European car manufacturers, they don’t stand a chance at all if they don’t get their affairs in order very quickly.
