In recent months, the AI chatbot Chat GPT System has received special attention. Because the system developed by OpenAI, which is currently in a test phase, answers questions in a natural way. Even interviews can be conducted with artificial intelligence. But the system also harbors some risks.
Because Chat GPT cannot always distinguish between truth and false information. This has already resulted in many answers that caused quite a few smiles in the community. But as funny as some of the answers are, artificial intelligence can be dangerous for development. Hence the school board in New York is now taking action.
Schools in New York block access to Chat GPT
Namely, public schools in New York are now blocking access to the Chat GPT website. One reason is the fear that students will use the system to solve their homework and exams. There are still dozens of other ways to cheat on an exam.
However, Chat GPT could actively impede the learning process. Because if you write a cheat sheet, for example, you deal with the requested content at least superficially. On the other hand, if you just enter a question into the field of AI, you don’t develop any critical thinking or skills to solve the problem.
Effects on the learning process remain unknown
Students in New York can therefore no longer access ChatGPT. Nevertheless, the system does not only pose risks for educational institutions. OpenAI offers, for example, that schools can apply to see the algorithm. An investigation of the logic and the training of interested students in this area is also possible.
Nevertheless, one thing must not be forgotten: the impact of an AI on the learning process and the analytical skills of children and young people has not yet been proven. Further research results are needed here in order to be able to classify the risk of chat GPT and Co.
