SERIOUSNESS
The Ernst biography is an ode to the eventful life of Ernst Daniël Smid, told by himself and recorded by Enno de Witt. Never before has Smid been so open: in addition to witty anecdotes, he tells candidly and without hesitation about his turbulent private life. About the lonely sides of success and life with Parkinson’s disease, but also about his marriage to his childhood sweetheart, which ended on the rocks. About his work in a healthcare institution. His second marriage, to ballerina Roos, who died young of cancer. The restless life in the theatre. His dedication to classical music. The friendships and the feuds. His financial problems. About the doubts and the fear of failure that he has always carried with him.
Ernst sketches a unique self-portrait in a moving and unforgettable way, in which he does not spare himself, but in which hope and humor are always central.
‘Ernest makes a deep impression.’ – AD
‘Parkinson insidiously overtook him,’ he writes in his touchingly candid autobiography Ernst.’ – Margaret
