New 5G chipset for the middle class

MediaTek is currently the largest manufacturer of chipsets for Android smartphones. However, the American chip manufacturer Qualcomm still leads in the 5G chipset segment. Weight scales on the MediaTek side could help tilt its new 5G chipset in this segment MediaTek Dimensity 900 for the middle class. Information about the news was brought by the portal GSMArena.

The new chipset is manufactured using a 6 nm manufacturing process, unlike today’s most powerful chipsets, which are manufactured using a 5 nm manufacturing process. The chipset processor should consist of a total of eight cores – two Cortex-A78 cores with a frequency of 2.4 GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores with a frequency of 2 GHz.

The graphics core is the Mali G68 with sufficient graphics performance for most mobile games. The 3rd generation MediaTek APU chip will be in charge of the artificial intelligence functions. The chipset also supports LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 flash memory. Smartphones with this chipset will also be able to use displays with FullHD + resolution and a refresh rate of 120 Hz.

108-megapixel resolution support and dual 5G modem

HDR 10+ support and dynamic color range conversion from SDR to HDR will also be available for 4K video playback. The camera will be able to sensor with a resolution of up to 108 megapixels. Recorded videos can have up to 4K resolution with HDR support at 30 fps. The manufacturer also promises excellent low light images thanks to support for 3DNR and MFNR.

The most fundamental parameters, of course, relate to connectivity. In addition to supporting Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2, there is also a 5G modem. It is even a dual 5G modem, so the smartphone can be simulated to connect to two 5G networks. It is the 5G support in this chipset that could help MediaTek gain a stronger foothold in the 5G mid-range smartphone market.
