Netflix sued over this sentence in The Queen’s Gambit
A sentence has been uttered in The Queen’s Gambit and now Netfix has a charge hanging on its pants.
Apparently the writers of the script put a reference in The Queen’s Gambit that not everyone is happy about. The series is based on a fictional story. So the US streaming service can’t have stepped on anyone’s toes by not being faithful to something. No, something else is going on here. Netflix has incurred the wrath of Nona Gaprindashvili.
The Queen’s Gambit indictment
Who? I hear you thinking now. Nona Gaprindashvili is a grand master of chess. According to the grandmaster, there is a reference to her hidden in the show. It is suggested in the Netflix series that she would never want to play against a man. The 80-year-old is furious about this sentence and has filed an official complaint in federal court in Los Angeles.
She wants the sentence removed from the series. The question is whether Netflix agrees to the demand, or whether this will lead to a settlement. Gaprindashvili seems initially not to leave it at a settlement. It may lead to a lawsuit. A judge may then consider the case. (via NYtimes)
