Netflix record broken: cult series creates mega hype
After three years, Stranger Things is back with season 4 and broke the streaming provider’s records within a few days. The series leaves the previous leader by far behind.
Stranger Things season 4 breaks viewership records
In just one weekend, the first part of the fourth season of Stranger Things to the top of the streaming provider. Netflix users have been able to stream the first seven episodes since Friday, and it seems they were only too happy to take advantage of this opportunity.
According to Netflix, the series made it on launch weekend 286.79 million viewer hours and resulted in total 83 countries the top lists. Both are new records. (Source: Netflix). The previous leader was the second season of the Bridgerton series, the series racked up 193 million viewer hours in its first weekend. Stranger Things beat Bridgerton by a whopping 50 percent.
However, the spectators were also well prepared, because the previous three seasons of Stranger Things have been in the top 5 on Netflix for the past few weeks. (Source: Variety). Stranger Things 4 episode length and part 2
One of the reasons for the many hours of viewers, in addition to the high popularity, is the length of the episodes. Of the seven episodes of the first part of the second season is the shortest 63 minutes and the longest 98 minutes long, which is rather atypical for series. The second part of the fourth season starts on July 1, 2022 on Netflix and consists of two episodes. However, the finale should have a running time of two and a half hours. Stranger Things is set to get a fifth and final season.
