Netflix has gained nearly 6 million subscribers since the end of account sharing
Nice success for Netflix which managed to attract 5.9 million new subscribers during the second quarter of 2023. During this same period, the streaming service implemented its end of account sharing policy.
netflix explain that the number of unsubscribes has been low in response to its measures of the end of account sharing. The service says to see “a healthy conversion of borrowing households into paid Netflix subscriptions”as well as “the adoption of our additional subscription function”. The group also says it will begin tackling the end of account sharing in all other countries where it has a presence. It was already a reality in some, like in France and the United States.
In detail, subscriptions increased by 1.17 million in the United States and Canada, by 2.43 million in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, by 1.2 million in Latin America and by 1.1 million in the Asia-Pacific region. In total, the service has 238.39 million subscribers worldwide, up 8% on a comparable basis.
The announcement of the 5.9 million new subscribers came during the release of financial results for the second quarter of 2023. Netflix had revenue of $8.20 billion, up 2.7% year-on-year. Net profit amounted to 1.49 billion dollars, up 3.26% year on year. Earnings per share amounted to 3.29 dollars, against 3.20 dollars last year at the same period.
Following the financial results, the action of Netflix is down 5.15% to 453 dollars.
