Netflix app for Apple TV gets new video player
Netflix is rolling out an update to its Apple TV app. This update focuses on a new video player. The refreshed design is in line with the standard interface from Apple’s tvOS 15. Most other streaming services have been using this design style for some time.
It doesn’t really matter through which app you watch a movie or series, the design is (somewhat) universal. Some video apps (such as Amazon Prime Video) still use their own design. In this article, we’ll tell you what changes the Netflix video player update brings. Are you reading along?
Refreshed fonts and Siri integration
The update should appear automatically on your Apple TV soon. In the new video player we see some notable changes. For example, titles of series and films will now appear in large letters at the bottom left of the screen. Of course you don’t see this while watching, but only when you select the progress bar.
Episode titles will also appear above the series title from now on. This way you can easily see which episode you have stayed with (for example, if you continue streaming via another account). The information button contains all kinds of other information. Think of the restart button and the possibility to browse through different episodes of a series. You can also check the video descriptions, subtitles and other settings with this button.
Incidentally, the video player that Netflix now uses is the default player from Apple itself. This is, for example, also used with Apple TV Plus.
The new design is thus more minimalist than its predecessor. In addition, Netflix’s updated interface now finally supports the new Siri remote. It came on the market in 2021 at the same time as the new Apple TV. The iPod-like click wheel now lets you scroll through episodes. That works just a bit more practical than moving the progress bar.
