‘My best friend and I got into a fight over our daughters’ fight’
One of the most important rules for friends who are also co-mothers: never, ever interfere with the quarrels between your children.
Jose (37): “A scratch on a pink girl’s bike: in a nutshell, that’s the reason for the fight between me and my best friend Julie. Actually, the one between our ten-year-old daughters. Only I did something stupid, I got involved and it escalated.
Row
After an afternoon of playing, Eefje borrowed my daughter Benthe’s bicycle to go home. She would bring him back the next day. Apparently the bike had fallen and as a result there was a huge scratch on the pink frame.
Benthe started to cry and moaned that she no longer liked the bike and now wanted a new one. Eefje denied that it was because of her and the girls started to argue. I got involved in their quarrel. I suggested that we could ask the bicycle mechanic to paint the frame and that those costs would then be for Eefje.

Scratch
That proposal went wrong with my girlfriend: why should she pay for a stupid scratch on a second-hand bicycle? We texted bad things back and forth, which means that now, four months later, I still have a knot in my stomach. Unfortunately, Julie doesn’t want to hear about a reconciliation. She even blocked me on Insta.”
