Motorola announces One Hyper. Very shortly after Xiaomi’s scoop, Motorola also shows a technology with which you can charge a smartphone remotely.

In a video on Weibo (via XDA-Developers), Motorola announces their version of remote wireless charging called One Hyper. Earlier today Xiaomi already came with a similar technology. This means that 29-01-2021 can officially be called the day of remote wireless charging. That is, if it ever goes mainstream, otherwise we’ll pretend it never happened.

Motorola One Hyper

In a short video, Motorola gives a small demonstration of One Hyper, their wireless charging system that can charge a smartphone remotely. The video shows two smartphones, one at a distance of 80cm and one at a distance of a meter from the box.

Then someone from Motorola puts his hand in front of the box to show that this has no effect on the charging. Furthermore, the American brand does not provide any information about the technology.

Presumably, on the other hand, it works the same as with the linked Xiaomi. Microwaves are received by a specific device, probably the Motorola Edge, and converted into electricity.

A big difference from Xiaomi, on the other hand, is the exact application. Xiaomi shows a pretty solid cube that has to provide all devices in a small living room with power. That product also works on ‘a few’ meters.

The Motorola One Hyper seems to work a bit more focused, whereby a device cannot be located further than a meter from the station. Think more of the scale of an office than of a living room.

It is not yet known how far Motorola is with their new product. In any case, the timing is very striking. It looks a bit like the company wants to ride on Xiaomi’s hype train. For real details, however, we have to be patient for now.
