Millions of Office users have to get used to it
Microsoft has announced that it will no longer offer the Android variants of its Office apps on Google’s Chrome OS. Even if the step does not come as a surprise, many users now have to get used to it. After all, Microsoft offers a chic web alternative.

Chrome OS: Microsoft is discontinuing Office apps
Anyone who owns a notebook with Chrome OS and relies on Microsoft’s Office apps is facing an important change. As the group has now officially confirmed, support for its own office apps will soon be completely discontinued. The support is running on September 18, 2021 the end.
As an alternative, Microsoft offers a web version at office.com and outlook.com. Own Apps are then no longer needed it can be used directly in the browser and is therefore still possible under Chrome OS – albeit indirectly.
It remains unclear what after the deadline happened exactly with the Office apps on Chrome OS. It has not yet been clearly communicated whether they can continue to be used – albeit without official support from Microsoft – or whether the group actually prevents their use (source: About Chromebooks).

According to Microsoft, the web version of the office software is said to be “Additional and premium functions” that are not available in the apps on Chrome OS. The group has not advertised which functions are involved in detail. The web version looks nicer in any case. A Microsoft account or subscription to Microsoft 365 is required for access. However, there is no offline mode, as was previously the case with Chromebooks.
