Microsoft won’t abandon Windows 10, despite Windows 11 announcement
Microsoft presented Windows 11 today at a conference, but Windows 10 users can rest assured: their operating system is not abandoned. Indeed, updates still go see the light of day, despite the existence of the new operating system.
Windows 11 will be released in final version this fall … just like version 21H2 of Windows 10. Microsoft has made a habit of offering two “major” updates to its operating system each year, with a release in the spring and another in the fall. This will continue as we can see. However, to see if there will still be the two “big” updates from 2022.
The idea with Windows 10 21H2 is to give businesses a way to have support while they begin their migration to Windows 11. As we know with businesses, rolling out updates can take a while. It is sometimes very long.
Beyond this point, Microsoft has already said that Windows 10 will be supported until October 2025. Users who do not want to migrate to Windows 11 will therefore be able to have different updates for another four years. But we should not hide it: there will be less and less new features with the updates, Microsoft will mainly devote them to Windows 11. The updates will above all make it possible to have the latest security patches to date, to plug various faults.
