‘Meta (Facebook) watch gets detachable screen and 3 cameras’

Meta, the parent company of Facebook, may want to release a smartwatch that will come with a detachable screen and multiple cameras. This is evident from the company’s new patents. It was previously announced that a Meta watch is expected in the summer of 2022.

Meta has been planning to release its own smartwatch for some time and according to an article by The Verge, it will be released in the summer of 2022. Later, renders of the watch surfaced via Bloomberg and we saw a smartwatch with a selfie camera in the screen. The screen itself is shaped like a square with rounded corners.

More may have become known about the Meta watch thanks to a patent discovered by LetsGoDigital. In the 49-page text, the company describes two smartwatches that come with a detachable screen and three cameras. It involves different lenses, such as a wide-angle camera and telephoto camera that assist the main camera.

The screen is also attached to the watch case with magnets and can therefore be removed. According to LetsGoDigital, this allows users to attach a second screen to the watch case that comes with other types of cameras. We already talked about two watches: one will have a square screen, as in the leaked renders, and another has a round panel. Both have largely similar characteristics.

Why does Meta make a smartwatch?

But what does Meta want to do with a watch that contains multiple cameras? The cameras allow you to take photos and videos that you can immediately share on social media, and the smartwatch should also work for video calls. There is also speculation that the smartwatch with cameras will play a role in virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) applications.

Still, it remains to be seen whether we will see this watch with three cameras and the detachable screen this year. It is not inconceivable that the first generation of the smartwatch works with a single camera, as we saw in the leaked renders. Meta said last summer that next generations of his watch are already being worked on, and they may therefore become more similar to the images from this new patent.
