Mastodon turns out to be a very popular Twitter alternative
There was some discussion about it within the editors, but the readers think so: Mastodon is the Twitter alternative. That applies at least to 18 percent of the readers. In addition, there are also many people who do not want to stop with Twitter at all, not even with a Musk who makes it very colorful: 15 percent stays.
Mastodon
Marco Zwetsloot is such a person who is #teammastodon: “Mastodon, despite the lack of well-known switchers. People are all afraid of losing followers.”
There is also a large group that wants to quit Twitter, but is not necessarily looking for an alternative: most votes went to that option: 22 percent of people have this opinion. Facebook and Instagram are both seen by 5 percent of readers as the social medium to exchange Twitter for, and with the brand new Threads that is no less than 7 percent.
Bluesky is also an overweight Twitter alternative with 4 percent, but Snapchat is less so: it only has 1 percent of the votes, just like TikTok and Tumblr. BeReal is – rightly – seen by no one as a Twitter alternative. However, there are still many people who choose ‘something else’: 19 percent chose this option. These are mainly people who do not use Twitter: lasthuis (“Never used Twitter”) and hvl62 for example. The latter even has to brake a bit: “Don’t use Twitter and never will. 🤮”
Mental health
aeijsink and Drankorgel have a completely different opinion, namely that social media is in a sense the devil. The two talk about ego tripping, but concerns are also expressed about the mental health of users.
Edo de Roo cannot be found on Twitter, but that is not due to his own ego tripping, but to that of Elon Musk: “I immediately stopped Twitter when Musk walked in with that toilet bowl. The best decision since I quit smoking.”
I can only agree about that smoking, but the toilet bowl was really a sink (so sink). Nice to read that twice: ‘Let that sink in’ or is it a harbinger of a sinking ship after all (sink also means sinking)? Readers do not always agree on which social media is or is not, but one thing is clear: there is a lot of dissatisfaction with the Twitter of today.
On the other hand, we are very satisfied with your enthusiastic reactions to the AW Poll. Next week again, same time, same place?
