disney announcement that several Marvel movies are changing release dates, with various delays in the lot. It is about six films from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Postponement of several Marvel films
Here are the old and new (US) release dates for Marvel movies:
- Blade : November 3, 2023 -> September 6, 2024
- Deadpool 3 : September 6, 2024 -> November 8, 2024
- The Fantastic Four : November 8, 2024 -> February 14, 2025
- Untitled Marvel Movie : February 14, 2025 -> November 7, 2025
- Avengers: Secret Wars : November 7, 2025 -> May 1, 2026
- Untitled Marvel Movie : May 1, 2016 -> removed from the calendar for the moment, no new date
These are the US release dates. However, it is easy to guess those for France. Indeed, the films are released on Fridays in the United States, where it is Wednesday in France. So just take two days off each time. It is true however that there are cases where the releases do not make the same week in the world. But it’s not that common for blockbusters.
Why all these delays? In the case of Blade, the one-year delay comes as no surprise, given recent news that Bassam Tariq has left the project, leaving the film without a director. Marvel has paused production, which stars Mahershala Ali as the vampire slayer, as the studio seeks to hire a new director.
Given the interconnectedness of the MCU storylines, the significant delay taken by Blade had repercussions for the rest of the films in development. The next Marvel movie to be released is Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which will mark the end of the MCU’s Phase Four.
