MagEZ Case 2 | High quality partial protection with MagSafe made of aramid fibers
When switching to a new device, there are usually more costs than just the smartphone itself. Many of us immediately buy a new screen protector and a cover to optimally protect the device from environmental influences. With the iPhone 13, which is slowly being delivered to more and more buyers (thanks to the lack of chips), PITAKA has again presented new models of its MagEZ series, we take a closer look at the edition for the iPhone 13 Pro Max in our review today.
Information: The MagEZ Case 2 was provided to us free of charge by PITAKA, but this did not influence the opinion in this article at any time.

Classic look, not suitable for everyone
The MagEZ Case 2 has always had an interesting design that stands out from its competition with its diagonal pattern. This may also be due to the fact that the manufacturer continues to use aramid fibers, a material that became widely known in 1972 under the brand name Kevlar.
In summary, I have to say about the design that it harmonizes well with my blue iPhone 13 Pro Max, but not everyone should like the appearance. If you are looking for a minimalist case, one that has a beautiful motif or you want the apple to be recognized on the back of the device, Case 2 is not for you. If you can make friends with the (in my opinion) extraordinary design, you can stand out from the crowd here.
This is also ensured by the wide range of available colors, which include black / gray, red / orange, red / orange with a herringbone pattern, black / gold and black / blue. The latter was made available to me for our test.
First impressions can be deceptive
So if you have ordered the cover and you take it out of the packaging for the first time, then you probably think of a variation of the following statement: How can such a narrow cover offer good protection? After all, the material is just 1.4 millimeters thick. But this impression belies the performance of the MagEZ Case 2.
As already mentioned above, aramid fiber is used for the cover, a material that is used, for example, in the manufacture of bulletproof vests. This is also noticeable with the MagEZ Case 2, the case is quite stable and even if the iPhone should fall, only small damage to the aramid fibers can be seen at normal heights. Other cases would already have scratches or other major damage or would not even have saved the iPhone from the floor.
But then there is one thing I have to object. Individual parts of the smartphone are not protected at all by the PITAKA cover. In addition to the volume buttons, these are the unlock button and the bottom with the Lightning port and speakers. If your iPhone does not fall so cheaply, unsightly damage can quickly occur here, with the iPhone 13 Pro Max the stainless steel frame can easily scratch in these areas. So there is a point deduction here, I hope that PITAKA will come up trumps with a solution to this problem with the next generation.
Aramid fibers cost money
If we look at the price, then we definitely do not see an iPhone case that you can get on your hand quickly and cheaply. The MagEZ Case 2 costs about official merchant account on Amazon 59.99 euros. This is already in the upper third for smartphone cases and also slightly above the prices that Apple charges for its official silicone case.
But you don’t just get a cover made of silicone or plastic, at PITAKA there are aramid fibers and these also cost significantly more to produce (apart from the fact that there are no templates that you can simply copy). Therefore, I would estimate the costs as just acceptable, but for many users, 60 euros is already too high.
Small restrictions
Basically, it can be said that the PITAKA MagEZ Case 2 is fully compatible with MagSafe. So if you have an official Apple charger, you can simply click on it on the back; the case should also be compatible with most of the third-party accessories.
It then becomes astonishing at PITAKA itself. With the model for the iPhone 13 Mini and iPhone 13 Pro, the own accessories (Wallet 2 (both) and Card Sleeve 2 (iPhone 13 Pro)) are not one hundred percent compatible, the camera lenses are slightly covered here. Even with the manufacturer’s inductive charging station MagEZ Juice, the removable power bank did not click reliably on the back of my iPhone 13 Pro Max.
PITAKA does not provide full compatibility with it, but most MagSafe-compatible components work with the case. In addition, it should be positively emphasized that the manufacturer supports MagSafe at all.
Every shell has its weaknesses …
… it is the same with PITAKA. Basically, for 60 euros you get reliable protection for your iPhone, which can stand out from the competition with its unusual design and high-quality materials. Nevertheless, the case does not protect the entire device, and some MagSafe-compatible accessories can only be attached wobbly.
Therefore, I would recommend the MagEZ Case 2 to all those who are looking for something of high quality, but at the same time have their smartphone firmly in their hand so as not to generate any unnecessary risk.
