‘No mini LED for MacBook Air’

Earlier this week we wrote that Apple may release a 15-inch MacBook Air next year. The reliable tasty Ross Young has now shared more information about the future of the lightweight laptop. Unlike the MacBook Pro, the Air would unfortunately not get a mini LED screen. Such a display has a higher brightness and much better black values than a normal LCD screen.

It is not very surprising that Apple is omitting this technology on the MacBook Air for the time being. Mini-LED screens are still quite expensive and the Air is intended as a relatively affordable entry-level model. However, we often see such Pro features on the cheaper models after a while. So there is a good chance that in a few years we will still be able to buy a MacBook Air with a mini LED screen.

The MacBook Air may also get a notch

According to Young, the design of the MacBook Air 2022 is going to be overhauled. As a result, there is room for a slightly larger 13.6-inch screen. The current model has a 13.3-inch display. A 15.2-inch variant would be added next year. That is of course great news for those who want a large laptop, but do not need the speed or extra options of the MacBook Pro.

What we already know about the MacBook Air 2022

According to the latest rumors, the MacBook Air 2022 will not be launched until the end of 2022. That is two years after the presentation of the current model. The laptop is probably undergoing the same metamorphosis as the iMac. That means that the screen edges become white and you can buy the device in all kinds of cool colors. The Air may also get thinner screen edges and a notch.

We also expect the new MacBook Air to run on a slightly faster M2 chip. He will also probably get a better webcam with 1080p resolution.
