MacBook Air 2023 is coming (but you shouldn’t buy it yet)
According to the usually reliable Mark Gurman, Apple will introduce two new models of the MacBook Air 2023 this year. The new laptops will probably be announced during WWDC 2023.
Earlier rumors said that the new MacBook Air 2023 will come in a 13-inch and 15-inch version. Apple would choose to give the 13-inch MacBook Air the new M3 chip, because otherwise the laptop still looks too much like its predecessor.
Now there seems to be a hitch and the M3 chips are waiting a little longer. A new MacBook Air 2023 with M3 will last until the end of 2023 (or early 2024), according to Gurman. The MacBook Air 2023 that Apple will probably introduce during WWDC 2023 will therefore still have an M2 chip (and you should not buy it).
The MacBook Air 2023 with an M2 remains a good laptop, but it is still better to wait a little longer until the version with an M3 chip is released. You then have a laptop with the latest Apple chip and will receive updates for longer. The new chip also brings a number of advantages.
Apple’s M3 chip: these are the most important innovations
It hasn’t been that long since Apple announced the M2 chip. This chip was the successor to the M1 and was the first to be included in the new MacBook Air 2022.
The new chip appears in a 3-nanometer version (the M1 and M2 were still based on the 5-nanometer format). The switch to this new format has a significant advantage. The new M3 chip from Apple is therefore a lot more energy efficient.
Of course, this won’t be the only thing Apple will improve on the M3 chip. It will probably also be a bit faster again and it will get some more graphics or processor cores. The higher speed naturally requires a bit more power, but the bottom line is that the M3 chip will certainly become a lot more energy efficient. This makes a Macbook Air 2023 with M3 chip worth buying in any case.
