Luca app: Vaccination status can be shared with the health department
The Luca app for check-in and subsequent transmission of contact details will soon appear in an upgraded version. It should be published in December, as explained by Patrick Hennig, managing director of the operating company Culture4Life. The focus of the new version is on a function that enables the Making life easier in the corona pandemic target.
The individual vaccination status of users should be able to be transmitted directly to the respective health department if necessary. It is hoped that contact follow-up decisions will be simplified. In addition, one would like to use the “Luca Connect” function encrypted chat with the health department provide. Direct messages between users of the app and the health department should be able to be exchanged without problems. People who may be at risk can be informed individually.
The makers of the Luca app attach great importance to the fact that communication is encrypted. Only the responsible health department can decrypt the data provided. In addition to the name and telephone number, this now also includes the vaccination status (source: Luca).
This is how Luca works:
Luca app with 40 million users
According to their own information are in this country around 40 million people in the Luca system recorded. 13 federal states have contracts with Luca, the costs for which amount to around 20 million euros. The previous annual licenses will expire in March 2022, Luca is trying to renew.
In the past, the app has been criticized again and again. Some researchers speak of partly “amateurish security holes” and one overall little added value. The Chaos Computer Club also doubts the app makes sense.
