Listen to podcasts with Google Podcasts, everything you need to know

With Google Podcasts you can find and listen to podcasts. In this article you will learn everything about this handy app from Google.

What is Google Podcasts?

Google Podcasts allows Android users to discover and listen to podcasts from all over the world. You can subscribe to any show you want for free and download episodes to listen to them offline if you don’t have a good internet connection for a while. All your listening activity is automatically synced across your signed in devices. So you can probably start an episode on your phone on the train to listen to the rest of the podcast at home on the tablet. You must be signed in to the same Google account on all devices.

Search and subscribe to podcasts

Through the tab Explore you can search for nice podcasts.

  1. Open Google Podcasts on your Android phone or tablet
  2. Tap on To search
  3. Enter the podcast name
  4. Tap the podcast Subscribe

To unsubscribe from a podcast, open it and tap Subscribed. You can also search here between the popular and trending podcasts and tap the three dots each time if you want to see more or less of the podcast in question in the sequel. You can also immediately block the series so that it will no longer be seen in Google Podcasts.

Add a podcast via RSS feed

You can also add a podcast via RSS feed. Once you add the feed, you’ll see the podcast along with your other subscribed series. This feature is available when you log in.

  1. Open Google Podcasts on your Android phone or tablet
  2. Tap at the bottom Activity and then on Subscriptions
  3. me on the three dots in the top right
  4. Tap on Add via RSS feed
  5. Enter the feed URL
  6. Tap on Subscribe

View and listen to podcast subscriptions

You can view your subscriptions at the top of the Home tab in Google Podcasts. You can search for a new podcast by clicking the plus sign. Below that, you’ll find the latest episodes of the podcasts you’ve subscribed to. Tap on Play to listen to an episode. You can also tap the podcast at the top to watch and/or listen to all episodes. Here you can sort by newest or oldest episode first and share the podcast with others.

The episode will play at the bottom of the screen. For more options, tap the episode that’s playing at the bottom of the screen. You can pause, fast forward or rewind, change the speed, shorten silences and set the sleep timer.

Add podcasts to your queue

Do you want to listen to several podcast episodes in a row during your long train journey? Then you add them to the queue in the app as follows.

  1. Open Google Podcasts on your Android phone or tablet
  2. Next to an episode, tap Add to queue

In the same way, you can remove an episode from your queue.

Change Queue Order

  1. Open Google Podcasts on your Android phone or tablet
  2. Tap the tab Activity
  3. Tap the two dashes next to the episode, hold this icon and drag the episode to the desired place

Add podcasts to your home screen

Want to listen to a podcast right from your phone’s home screen? Then follow these steps:

  1. Open Google Podcasts on your Android phone or tablet
  2. Then tap the podcast at the top of the Home tab
  3. Tap the three dots at the top right
  4. Tap on Add to home screen

Listening to podcasts in the car

Google Podcasts will automatically appear in the Android Auto media apps list if you have the app installed on your phone.

On the screen of your infotainment system you can choose the following in Google Podcasts:

  1. New episodes: New episodes from your subscriptions.
  2. Your queue: Episodes in your queue.
  3. Downloads: Episodes downloaded to your device.
  4. History: Episodes that you have listened to part or all of.
  5. Subscriptions: podcasts you’ve subscribed to.
  6. To discover: personalized episode recommendations

Play a podcast using voice commands

Are you in the car or can you not use your phone for a while? Then start an episode with a voice command

  1. Say “Hey Google” or tap the microphone
  2. Say a command, such as: “Listen to [naam van podcast].”Play [naam van podcast] off. ”Listen to the latest episode of [naam van podcast] “Listen to a Comedy Podcast”
  3. ‘Listen to [naam van podcast]’
  4. ‘Play [naam van podcast] off’
  5. ‘Listen to the latest episode of [naam van podcast]’
  6. ‘Listen to a comedy podcast’
