Learn salsa dancing at home with Pocket Salsa
Taking salsa lessons is quite a barrier for some people: such a group of strangers, the fact that many people still think they are a jack-of-all-trades and the uncertainty that you might also have to dance with other people. Would you rather learn the basics at your own leisure? Then Pocket Salsa is ideal.

Pocket Salsa Basics
There are two versions of Pocket Salsa: the basics and the regular, full version. You can learn a lot in the basics, but sometimes the app does refer you to the full version (which costs 5.50 euros). In this article we discuss the basic app, because it is free and you can at least learn the basics of this dance. Maybe also nice to do with your partner in the living room on Valentine’s Day?
Pocket Salsa teaches you the steps, er, step by step, which makes it very easy to imitate the dancers. The app consists of a row of videos, which indicate what you learn in them. You do have to watch an advertisement after every video, but you can quickly tap it away. In the app there are ‘lessons’, ‘rhythms’ and ‘episodes’. The lessons teach you step by step, while the rhythms are only there to give you a better feeling of what salsa music is. The episodes are the most fun to watch, because in them dancers perform larger pieces of dance.
Learn to dance on your phone
It’s great to see how much you can learn from this app without having to pay for it. And it’s nice to have the opportunity to learn the basics first, because if you don’t like it, then you just stick with that app, while if you get the hang of it you can go for the full app. It’s also a handy app to teach yourself to dance in heels, for example, if you could use some extra help with that: after all, you can practice and review your steps endlessly, whether you wear high heels or the flattest Toms- shoes.
Don’t be afraid to use the app alone: salsa is definitely more fun with two people, but you don’t necessarily have to take the first steps in the salsa world with someone else: many basics can be learned without a dance partner. It is certainly not the explanation of the people of Addicted2Salsa, because they put down a nice, clear dance explanation of this wonderful, Cuban dance.
