Version 2.7 of the Corona warning app was released. Now the app checks the signature of vaccination, recovery and test certificates for authenticity. The expiry date of the certificates is also displayed.
In mid-July, Deutsche Telekom and SAP gave the Corona Warning app the option of updating to version 2.5 to digitally collect certificates about vaccinations, recoveries and tests at a central location. Since then, certificates for other people, such as family members, can also be managed in the app. With the 2.7 update, the Corona-Warn-App gets two more important functions that should be available to all users in the next 48 hours.

Corona warning app checks whether certificates are genuine
A corresponding According to blog post Version 2.7 of the app checks the signature of vaccination, recovery and test certificates for authenticity. This is supposed to make fake certificates impossible. In the future, only certificates that have been issued by an authorized body will be imported into the Corona Warning app. The check is carried out automatically. Incidentally, this applies to certificates that are imported into the app for the first time from version 2.7, as well as to certificates that are already in the app.
In addition, the Corona Warning app from version 2.7 also shows the technical expiry date of the vaccination, test and recovery certificates. If such a certificate has expired, it is no longer valid as proof of travel in the EU. However, this does not necessarily mean that the vaccination protection has expired. However, users then need a new digital proof of vaccination or recovery.
Version 2.7: Warning before certificates expire
According to the app developer, users will receive a notification directly in the app and via push message on their smartphone 28 days before the technical expiry of the certificates. If the certificate has expired, users will be notified again. In the case of test certificates, there is no reference to an expiry date, as they are invalid after a few days anyway.
