Is your phone not charging? How to clean the charging port

Cleaning charging port
The place where dust and dirt can cause the most problems is on the USB-C or Micro-USB port. If you do regular chores and leave your phone lying around, or you just use the same phone for years, you can have problems with charging. The contact with your USB cable becomes poor and you notice that the cable does not fit deep enough into the port. This is the result of an accumulation of dirt.
Fortunately, you can usually solve that problem with home-garden-and-kitchen products. Take a toothpick and gently scrape the edges of the charging port. The word foresight deserves emphasis here. Often the dirt is completely at the back and it can be useful to sharpen the tip of the toothpick beforehand.
A second tip is to use a compressed air spray. This works particularly well as a preventative measure, because if dirt has accumulated in the gate for a long time, compressed air is often not enough. If you already have an air compressor at home, you can also use it.
Speakers spic and span
Dirt crawls everywhere where there is an edge or opening in your phone and therefore also in the speaker. Take a small piece of tape to remove the most superficial dust and use a brush to floss if you want to wipe the dirt from the speaker grill. Be careful not to push it all through the grill. An alternative is to use reusable adhesive erasers, but caution applies here too.
If you really want to disinfect or clean the speaker more thoroughly, you can dab a cotton swab in a small amount of cleaning alcohol. Then you wipe the speaker clean. And finally, a compressed air spray can also be of service here.
Screen and housing
The charging port and speaker are often a bit more difficult to clean than the screen and housing of a smartphone. You can clean the screen most efficiently with a microfibre cloth that attracts the dust. Use a small amount of water or cleaning spray. The housing is best cleaned with a disinfecting cloth. Dry your phone afterwards as well.
