Is Netflix becoming a social network? The platform introduces a fundamental change
Netflix introduces Fast Laughs, a new mobile feature that looks a bit like a social network TikTok or Instagram Reels. Fast Laughs are short clips that are cut from movies, comedies and especially from the performances of stand-up comedians who have their shows directly on Netflix. The new feature has its own tab in the bottom bar of the mobile application and allows users to take several actions beyond just watching.
Users can add scrapbooks to the “watch later” list or share them with others (via Snapchat, WhatsApp, Instagram and Twitter). In addition, Fast Laughs allows you to respond “LOL” to a clip. It should be added that Fast Laughs is currently only available to iOS device owners in selected countries.
Netflix introduces Fast Laughs as an option to its own TikToku competition. Recent data has shown that TikTok has become a competitor of Netflix. Which doesn’t seem realistic at first glance, because Netflix and TikTok create different types of content, but judging by the data, people spend more time on TikTok – and therefore less time on Netflix. According to current information, the new feature will not remain on iOS and Netflix will soon start testing Fast Laughs on Android devices.
