iPhone gets new screen
According to the Digitimes, Apple will provide the iPhone with a micro-LED screen in the future. This new screen has a number of advantages that make the iPhone even better. For example, this new screen requires less from your iPhone battery and the display also has a better contrast.
However, according to the report, the Apple Watch Ultra is the first to be upgraded to micro-LED. Then comes the iPhone and iPad. That means you have to wait a while for the new screens. According to rumors, the Apple Watch Ultra will not get a micro LED until late 2024 / early 2025. The upcoming iPhone 15 will therefore once again have an OLED display.
Meanwhile, Apple is still making the switch to OLED screens. The first Apple device with an OLED screen was the original Apple Watch, followed by the iPhone X. According to rumors, the first iPad and Mac will come with an OLED screen next year. The move to micro-LED screens is likely to follow a similar trajectory in the future.
Micro LED in brief
Micro-LED can best be described as the better version of OLED, with one important difference: the way it is made. However, you do not have the risk of screen burn-in with micro-LED. This screen technique is made using non-natural materials.
Sustainability is therefore a major advantage of micro-LED. The screen type also excels in economy. Micro-LED is more energy-efficient than OLED and therefore has less impact on the battery life of your phone, watch or laptop.
