‘iPhone 16 Pro gets spectacular full-screen design’

No notch, camera hole or other recess. In the design of the iPhone 16 Pro that Apple will launch in 2024, the front consists only of screen. This reports the reliable Apple insider Ming-Chi Kuo.

Full-screen design for iPhone 16 Pro

“I think the first full-screen iPhone will be released in 2024,” Kuo wrote on Twitter. With the high-end iPhone of that year, Apple would place the parts needed for Face ID behind the screen. There’s even an under-display selfie camera.

This eliminates the need for a cutout and the 2024 flagship would have an OLED screen that covers the entire front. Apple probably calls this device the iPhone 16 Pro. Kuo has a very good track record when it comes to making predictions about future iPhones, so chances are his statements are accurate.

A camera behind the screen brings challenges. “Low light conditions are detrimental to the quality of the front camera. ISP and algorithm are critical for quality improvements,” notes Kuo.

Apple wouldn’t be the first with a selfie camera below the screen. Manufacturer Xiaomi, among others, already released a smartphone with an ‘under panel camera’ with the Mi Mix 4. However, the photo quality is mediocre. The camera cannot capture enough light through the display, making photos appear dark. In addition, the selfie camera is not completely invisible.

First steps with iPhone 14 Pro

Incidentally, the notch seems to be disappearing already this year. With the iPhone 14 Pro (which Apple will probably present in September 2022), Apple would hide the selfie camera behind a pill-shaped cutout. There will also be a hole in the screen, in which Apple houses parts for Face ID.
