iPhone 15: Wi-Fi 6E, A17 chip and new buttons will be reserved for Pro models
Support for Wi-Fi 6E will be part of the iPhone 15, but only Pro and Pro Max models will be able to take advantage of it according to an internal Apple document who leaked. The leak comes from Unknownz21, which previously leaked information about the iPhone 14s and obtained a copy of iOS 14 before official availability.
The document shows the architecture of the antennas, with D8x referring to iPhone 15 Pro and D3y referring to non-Pro models. We learn that only the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max support Wi-Fi 6E, where non-Pro models will have to make do with Wi-Fi 6. This is already available on existing iPhones.
Wi-Fi 6E offers the features and capabilities of Wi-Fi 6, including higher performance, lower latency, and faster transfer rates, all extended with the 6 GHz band. The extra spectrum provides more airspace than existing 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi, which helps increase bandwidth and reduce interference.
Other documents obtained by the leaker also confirm that only the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max will be entitled to the new A17 chip with 3 nm engraving. That means more power and better range. For their part, the non-Pro models will be satisfied with the A16 chip with 5 nm engraving which is already found in the iPhone 14 Pro. Also, non-Pro iPhone 15s will not be entitled to new volume buttons with a haptic feedback system. They will keep the mechanical buttons according to the documents.
