‘No more physical SIM card slot for iPhone 15 Pro’
Is the end of the trusted SIM cards in sight? That seems almost impossible to imagine, but Apple would like to give the thing a big kick towards the museum in 2023. According to a rumor from the Brazilian Blog do iPhone the iPhone 15 Pro will no longer have a physical SIM card slot.
We take a grain of salt with this message, but it certainly doesn’t seem impossible. Apple has been working on the transition to eSIM for years. In fact, the iPhone 13 models are the company’s first smartphones to support dual eSIM. This allows you to use two digital SIM cards at the same time. If you have two subscriptions, one for work and one for private purposes, you no longer need to get a physical ticket.
Moreover, Apple often chooses to be the first to say goodbye to ‘obsolete’ technology. For example, the floppy drive and later the DVD player disappeared from the Mac, while many other companies still stuck with it. At least as well-known is of course the omission of the headphone jack on the iPhone 7. In all these cases, the competition soon followed.
Towards an iPhone without holes?
There have been rumors for some time that Apple is working on an iPhone without a charging port. You could only power that futuristic device wirelessly. Leaving out the port makes it easier to waterproof an iPhone.
Removing a physical SIM card slot may fit in with the same strategy. The door is a weak point in the design through which moisture can get in relatively easily. An iPhone without holes or covers would be a lot more robust.
