‘iPhone 14 gets a feature that will be found on Android phones for 12 years’
With the upcoming iPhone 14, Apple will introduce an always-on screen in iOS. You can then read information about notifications, among other things, while your phone is locked. This screen has been on Android phones since 2013.
Always-on screen iPhone 14
Last year, with the arrival of the iPhone 13, the first reports about the always-on display (AOD) for iOS leaked. iPhones got an LTPO screen for the first time, but the AOD was delayed. With the iPhone 14 it is finally coming, writes iCulture.
The Always-on screen was a Nokia feature before it came to Android, but Motorola also launched it in 2013 with its first Moto X. That flagship phone had an AMOLED screen, so pixels don’t light up on the black areas of the screen. the screen. This is different from LCD technology where the entire screen is always lit. AMOLED made the AOD energy efficient, although LG introduced the feature to the LG G3 that same year with its LCD panel.
Samsung users had to wait until 2016 for the AOD with the Galaxy S7 series, while Samsung has been working with AMOLED technology on its top devices from the start. LG, which at the time stuck to LCD panels for a long time, also launched a strange bird that same year: the LG V20. The device stood out because it had a second screen: a horizontal strip of text above the main screen. That small LCD panel also had AOD functionality.
Better lock screen
However, with the recently announced iOS 16, Apple is innovative when it comes to the lock screen. The company is adding a system of widgets that allow you to personalize your lock screen. And that is a feature that is also nowhere to be found in the beta versions of Android 13. Very often with Android innovation comes on the side of the manufacturers and we also see that Motorola is getting started with the lock screen with its My UX. You can read it in the review of the Motorola Edge 30.
