‘iPhone 13 gets smaller notch thanks to new camera system’

Although the iPhone does not say goodbye to the notch in the screen this year, it would be a lot smaller on the iPhone 13.

‘iPhone 13 gets smaller notch’

That writes DigiTimes based on anonymous sources. The website states that the iPhone 13 includes a whole new Face ID system, which is designed to make the screen cutout smaller. This would mainly be less high, so that it is less in the way of apps or if you watch a video in full screen.

According to DigiTimes, Apple achieves this by packaging different elements that are still separately processed in the notch in a single camera module. The LiDAR scanner of the iPhone 12 Pro is also constructed in the same way.

Foxconn and the Korean LG Innotek would produce this new Face ID camera. The rest of the front camera will be provided by O-Film, the rumor said.

It’s not the first time we’ve heard of a smaller notch. The rumor was also about the iPhone 12 last year, but it turned out to be wrong. Since then MacOtakara and other well-known Apple sources said that the plan for a smaller notch has been moved to the iPhone 13.

It’s time for a notch alternative

Apple introduced the notch with the iPhone X in 2017, making it one of the first companies to incorporate the front camera into the screen in this way. We are now four years on and countless competitors have found alternative ways to do this: holes in the screen or a retractable camera, for example.

The big next technological step now is to place the front camera completely under the screen. With that you can just keep taking selfies, but the lens is no longer in the way of the front-filling display.
