iOS 16.1 beta 1: the list of new features (Matter, battery percentage, etc.)
Apple today released Beta 1 of iOS 16.1 on iPhone, which arrives shortly after the final version of iOS 16. There are a few new features with this new version, this is the opportunity to discover them.
What’s New in iOS 16.1 Beta 1
— The iPhone XR, iPhone 11, iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 13 mini now have the right to the battery percentage at the status bar. Other iPhones with Face ID can benefit from it since iOS 16. It’s available from Settings > Battery by activating the “Battery percentage” option.
— Matter support makes its debut, with a dedicated space in the settings. Created by the Connectivity Standards Alliance which includes companies like Apple, Amazon and Google, Matter ensures interoperability between smart home devices from different companies. HomeKit, Google Assistant, Alexa, SmartThings and other smart home devices that support Matter will be able to work together.

— The Clean Energy Charging option (which has been translated as Recharge with green energy in French) is making its debut, as Apple recently announced. Clean Energy Charging selectively charges when low-carbon electricity is available to provide a greener charging method. This will only be available in the US (at launch at least).
— The Live Activities API is back with the new beta. This will allow applications to display real-time information on the lock screen (scores of a sports meeting, delivery in progress, etc).
— New customization options are available. On the lock screen, tapping the “Customize” button now gives an option to choose between customizing the lock screen or the home screen, not just the lock Screen.
— It is now possible to remove the Cards application (Wallet). Previously, it is possible to remove it from the home screen, but not to remove it completely.
