Instagram suspends the application for children. He wants to follow the path of parental supervision

Instagram reached a rather radical conclusion. It will pause Instagram Kids and look for other options. It is thus subject to a wave of criticism that has erupted in the children’s version.

Instagram has issued a completely contradictory position on the whole situation around their application for children. On the one hand, it is evident that the pressures against their version for children under 13 have taken over and Instagram suspends work on this version of the application. However, he adds that it was actually a great idea, because YouTube and TikTok also offer such versions and work. The whole problem, of course, is that it is not an obstacle for children to define themselves as an elderly person. This will, of course, give you access to the full version of Instagram for adults. So for now, the application project for children under thirteen is postponed. Instagram will probably restore it when the pressure to run it is less.

However, the company adds that now it is going to focus its activity on still children, but older than 13 years. According to the developers, this is also a vulnerable group, and parents want to be involved in their protection. They will have the tools to control their children and their activities. Although the exact form is not known, they will probably be linked accounts, parent-child, where there will be control over the content and the ability to define browsing rights. This will determine the extent to which Instagram content is viewed, but will be determined by the parent. Not Instagram.

Instagram is currently responding mainly under the pressure of information about its service and especially the background. It is perhaps the biggest wave of criticism, which is all the more fundamental because, on the one hand, it comes directly from within the development and, on the other hand, it is directed precisely at the neglected protection of juveniles. And that’s always a sensitive topic. Although Instagram defends itself and keeps repeating how it protects teenagers, activities such as the suspension of the Kids version speak of fears of public pressure. The result is various settings, the most important is the mandatory designation of the account as private, for people under 16 years.

Instagram does not want to be constantly written about negatively, as an application that causes mental problems for children. This simply harms advertising, and Facebook and its entire product group are built on and directly dependent on that. And so Instagram goes further, where it was not conceivable before that it would go. Just the idea that it would be possible to take a break from the application, directly the official function, which would be part of it, declares an effort to show friendliness.

And finally, the most sensitive. How better to show that our efforts are sincere than on our own children? And that’s what Instagram boss Adam Mosseri does, claiming that his three children wouldn’t put him at risk are the most important things in his life. And for them, changes are taking place to improve Instagram’s security. We will see.
