Instagram comes with trash can function and helps against hackers

Instagram has announced a new feature called Recently Deleted. With this option you can retrieve images that you have previously deleted. This can be especially useful if your Instagram account has been hacked.

Facebook has started rolling out a new feature for Instagram. The function is called Recently Deleted and provides insight into which files have been deleted by the user. This includes shared photos and videos, as well as reels, Stories and IGTV images.

After deleting this content, it is immediately deleted and they end up in the Recently Deleted folder, which is the trash can. Deleted Stories that are not in your archive will remain here for 24 hours, other files will be automatically deleted 30 days later. During that time it is possible to retrieve a file from the recycle bin. However, not everyone can do this, because to make this possible you need to verify yourself via email or text message.

The new trash can function should help against hackers. When your account is hacked, it may just be that the person deleted your account with photos. Until now it was not possible to retrieve it under your own control. The new function must offer that possibility. It cannot prevent the hacker from deleting an account, but hackers usually use accounts to share their own messages, usually malicious products or services.

The option will be rolling out to Instagram’s apps in the near future.
