Find and Merge Duplicate Photos in iOS 16
Is your photo library on your iPhone also full of duplicate photos? At first you always needed a special app to track them down, but with iOS 16 you just do it from the Photos app. Your iPhone then detects the duplicate photos itself and merges them. This will clear up your photo library and free up some extra storage space.
Find and Merge Duplicate Photos on iPhone with iOS 16
- Open the Photos app and tap “Albums”;
- Scroll down and tap on ‘Duplicate parts’, don’t see the option? Then first tap ‘Albums’ in the top left;
- Tap ‘Combine’ next to the found photos;
- Then tap ‘Merge 2 duplicates’.
You can also select multiple duplicate photos and then merge them all together. You do that in the following way.
- Open the duplicate parts folder as described above;
- Tap ‘Select all’ in the top left;
- Then tap ‘Merge’ at the bottom.
When combining, the photo with the highest quality is preserved. The data such as keywords are merged. The other duplicate photo will be moved to the “Recently Deleted” folder.
